.Jakub Jozef Orlinski at Stanford

Grammy-nominated Jakub Jozef Orlinski’s career in opera started when he was a child, singing in a choir in Warsaw. His impeccable countertenor—the term for a male voice in the soprano region, the rarest of all voice types—won him recognition around Poland. By his early 20s, he studied at Juilliard and performed at Carnegie Hall, sweeping up the most prestigious awards in the opera world. His performance of Vivaldi’s “Vedro con mio diletto” is a must-see clip on YouTube. Also, in an unexpected twist, he is known to combine breakdancing with opera.
