Drawing from the Laurel Canyon singer-songwriter tradition and sultry Brazilian bossa nova, indie folk-pop singer and guitarist Jamie Drake is a study in contrasts reconciled. The daughter of hippies, she grew up in the Pentecostal faith; her family’s itinerant lifestyle also informed her music. Drake’s recorded debut was in 2008, but her breakout was 2019’s Everything’s Fine. Two of its songs, the title track and “Wonder,” have each racked up more than seven million plays on Spotify. Drake’s latest long-playing offering is New Girl, and she has released a pair of non-album singles since then.
