The first time that bassist Jeff Denson and guitarist Romain Pilon got together to record it felt like a lightning strike. The longtime friends have an uncommon communion that undeniably radiates from the stage and from their two albums together. The trio is completed on drums by the fantastic drumming of Scott Amendola, for whom the drum kit isn’t so much an instrument as a musical portal. The music of this trio, interactive and generous, reflects the pleasure these musicians have in playing together. You will find influences ranging from Led Zeppelin to Wayne Shorter, via Miles Davis, Hendrix or Satie, among many others.
Presented by San Jose Jazz, the SJZ Break Room is a unique setting for live music, shaped by the evolution of audience habits and technology. As you arrive, you’ll recognize the bold new aqua entrance vestibule painted by artist Ben Henderson to refer to the venue’s symbolic water cooler. Lighting turns an office into a hip, bar-appointed club space with a psychedelic animated backdrop and twinkling table lights. Most performances are live streamed, with the feed projected onto a towering bank of windows for an immersive experience not found anywhere else. With a capacity of just 100, almost every seat is within 30 feet of the action. With the performers on the same level as the audience, each show has the intimate feel of a private concert.
