Despite what the pop country charts might say, 2024 is an exciting time for fans of Americana. For a case in point, take a look at Jess Ledbetter. The Texas native brews a concoction of blues, country and rock for a bonafide hell-raising-and-dust-kicking sound that is equal parts excitingly new and somehow nostalgically familiar. Once pushing the envelope playing in shoegaze and punk bands, she’s transferred that energy into a more rootsy sound. Teamed up with the Hawaiian and Santa Cruz country duo Poi Rogers, the result is one hell of honky-tonkin’ night of distinctive music that is seemingly tailor-made for a comic shop music venue. (MW)
