To ascend to the heights of jazz mythology, as John Pizzarelli has, it helps to be a double threat. Pizzarelli’s precise and wistful approach to jazz guitar leaves room for the audience to hear the tension in the strings and room to hear the notes travel for full emotional heft. His voice is evocative of Chet Baker, subdued but full of conviction and smoothness that sells the jazz standards he’s been recording for the last 30 years. The mix of bossa nova chord with lounge wistfulness is infectious and will create an intimate mood for this early Guild Theatre performance.
