Anthony Weiner’s sexting scandal (which marks the first, and hopefully last, time that 50-plus year old news anchors utter the word “sexting”) forces him to resign from Congress, and forces us to be mature and not make mention of his last name (which is literally Weiner, by the way).
Good to Be Google
And good to be Google’s hometown. While most cities are suffering from deep budget crises, the Wall Street Journal reports that Mountain View would get $30 million from the search giant as an upfront fee for a 52-year lease on 9.4 acres.
Apple’s 1% Concentrate
Apple CEO Steve Jobs offered to give Cupertino residents free wifi, if the company could stop paying taxes. Otherwise, “we pay taxes and the city should do those things.” The hardball negotiating session occured after Jobs made a presentation about Apple’s proposed new headquarters, which would resemble a large, round spaceship. Not satisfied with having the world’s most futuristic corporate building and 12,000 jobs, Councilmember Kris Wang asked, “Do we get free wifi or something like that?” A suggestion that residents get free iPads failed to gain traction as well.
