Last year’s Juneteenth “In The Streets” celebration filled two blocks of downtown San Jose. Crowds enjoyed vendors, performers, a marching band parade and resource tables curated by the African American Community Service Agency. They’ll present the festival again this year in partnership with NBC anchor Marcus Washington. The agency connects marginalized San Jose residents with educational and supportive services. Their advocacy initiatives are designed with systemic disparities in mind and their programs—which include career development, STEAM education and parenting workshops—affirm each person’s needs in building self-efficiency.
