Composed by legendary composer Giacomo Puccini with a libretto based on Scènes de la vie de bohème by Henri Murger, the opera La Bohème follows the lives of young bohemians as they struggle to survive and pursue their art in Paris, France. All seems lost for these creators until a chance knock at their door one freezing Christmas changes their lives forever. Though initial audience impressions were subdued and critical appraisal was mixed, La Bohème quickly became one of the more popular operas in Italy. Since then, thanks to a charming, grounded story and a memorable, soaring score, it has grown into one of the most popular operas in history.
