Ópera Cultura brings to life a well-known Latin American folk legend: a young Xochil Indian girl falls in love and marries a man of Spanish lineage, but the great Xochil River never forgives her for betraying her people. In his bilingual musical adaptation of the tale, composer Héctor Armienta emphasizes themes of destiny and free will. Stage director Allie Bailey leads a primarily female design team for the production, with refreshed dialogue by playwright and assistant director Maribel Martinez. They present the story through a feminist lens, reclaiming the tale of a woman’s descent into madness. Opening night tickets include wine and appetizers. Presented in English and Spanish.
