LADAMA is a group of four women, each of them virtuosic musicians, composers and educators, who met during an arts residency. Lara Klaus, Daniela Serna, Mafer Bandola and Sara Lucas harness traditional and modern styles from their countries of origin–Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and the United States–to create Latin alternative music. Praised by NPR for their “irresistible spirit and universal appeal,” they have performed music as an act of civil engagement at festivals and conventions alike. Whereas LADAMA’S self-titled debut album (2017) centered on organic roots percussion and rhythm, their second album Oye Mujer (2020) presents charged, visceral songs sung in Spanish, Portuguese and English.
