San Francisco is far from the desert, but somehow a crush of desert sand has seeped into the riffs of San Francisco rockers Lazer Beam. Often compared to Queens of the Stone Age and other practitioners of desert rock, Lazer Beam drop heavy riffs that stretch to some distant horizon, with a cool melodic breeze blowing on top. The sandstorm wafting off “Vultures” from last year’s Lost in Oblivion is so thick I think I need a glass of water just thinking about it. Opening the show are San Jose’s own indie pop rockers Cartoon Hearts, who released their debut Falling Out of Love Overnight this February.
