Not a Fan
So far I’m not a fan of your redesign. More color adds with less content. I’ve read Metro for years for content like the Straight Dope, Advice Goddess, RvB’s movie reviews and for listings of events. The content is shrinking, and the ads are growing. The written word is not dead. I know content is expensive, but please bring it back. Of course, if I get too stressed out about this, I’ll have plenty of “medical” marijuana ads to browse through. Maybe if I find a regular supplier, I’ll forget just how great Metro used to be.

Cutting Edge
Our City Council and mayor should serve for only a stipend, like they do at every other city here in the county. The City Council members all have other full-time jobs, and being on the City Council is only a part-time job for them. Why should they make $90,000 a year plus full benefits? Santa Clara City Council members get only a monthly stipend, and their city is run infinitely better and is financially sound. I’m sure Pierluigi Oliverio would agree to cutting his salary, since he is always pointing out the greed of city workers.

Where Is It?
The new Metro needs a table of contents.

Book ‘Em
San Jose has its own library system (“Cuts Threaten Best Public Library System,” San Jose Inside, April 28). So do Santa Clara, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and Mountain View. Many smaller cities in the county are affiliated with the Santa Clara County library system.
It seems to me that you could reduce significant overhead by consolidating all libraries within Santa Clara County into one library system.
Let’s eliminate duplicate overhead among library systems. Also, one library card would work at all of the county’s libraries.
