Though he started solo with the notable release Later that Day in 2003, Lyrics Born gained notoriety after creating Latyrx with fellow rapper Lateef the Truthspeaker. Hailed as a revelation for its unique call-and-response, so-quick-it’s-almost-hypnotic interplay of rapping, Latyrx is considered the watermark of alternative, experimental rap. Since then, Lyrics Born has released several well-regarded albums. For his upcoming show at Mama Kin, the rapper will perform with a full band and DJ Cutso.
