Is there a single logical reason not to go to a free concert on a Sunday afternoon at the start of summer? The Levitt Foundation, which promotes free music nationwide, thinks not, as they’re presenting a show by the Bay Area hip-hop luminary Lyrics Born, with support by local band Dox & the Aquanauts. The Tokyo-born artist has smashed records and subverted expectations throughout his multi-decade career, including being the first Asian American to release a greatest hits compilation. He calls himself “the funkiest rapper alive” and has the heroes to prove it; his style is a rare combination of James Brown groove and Snoop Dogg flow.
