.Marcello Hernandez in San Jose

In 2023, Marcello Hernandez became Saturday Night Live’s first cast member from Gen Z. The Cuban Dominican stand-up comedian, writer and actor certainly has a fresh style, covering race, technology, gender, pandemic experiences and much more with twenty-first-century sensibilities. He launched his award-winning  Just for Laughs set, saying, “It’s very interesting to be as Hispanic as I am and then to look this White. My name is Marcello Andres Hernandez-Gonzales, but I look like . . . Timothee Chalamet!” Though he’s in the new guard of American comedy, Hernandez has toured with and opened for some absolute legends, including Dave Chappelle, Colin Jost and Jo Koy. (AM)
