THE FAMILIAR phrase "world music" gets a very literal meaning at the annual Pan-Asian Music Festival at Stanford. Players, composers and filmmakers will gather for 16 days to perform and discuss music from Israel, Iran, Central Asia and other places. The concerts range from the Persian perspective of Iran's Mohsen Namjoo, who mixes classical verse with a modern satirical eye, to a wide-ranging evening of Asian themes by the Kronos Quartet. Representing the campus will be the Stanford Symphonic Chorus, New ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Philharmonia and Symphony Orchestra.
