ONE OF THE advantages of performing in a refurbished movie palace is access to a mighty pipe organ. Symphony Silicon Valley takes advantage of that fact with a performance of Felix Alexandre Guilment's Organ Symphony no. 1 with guest soloist Jonas Nordwall. Guest conductor Paul Haas will also lead the orchestra in performances of Schubert's Symphony no. 9 and Barber's Adagio for Strings (memorably used on the soundtrack to Platoon). Also on Saturday, the Henry Mollicone's Winchester Orchestra offers "A Celebration of Soloists," with Robert F. Jones' Far Away Is Close at Hand in Images of Elsewhere. Gretchen Miescke is the guest artist for Bruch's Concerto no. 1 for Violin and Orchestra, while cellist Oshagan Merjanian leads the way on Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme for Solo Cello and Orchestra. The whole family is encouraged to attend the South Valley Symphony's "Music for the Young at Heart Concert." In addition to some familiar favorites by Mozart and Prokofiev, the orchestra will entertain with Slaughter on 10th Avenue. The Palo Alto Philharmonic closes out its season with a chamber concert program featuring Brahms' Trio for Piano, Clarinet and Cello, Mozart's Adagio and Rondo, Friedrich Kuhlau's Grande Duo in E Minor and York Bowen's Fantasie for Four Violas.
