AT THE READY: Bobby Pacquiao (along with Robert Frankel) headlined the last Fight Night at the Tank. Pacquiao went the distance but lost to a unanimous decision that gave Frankel the win.
Cashing In
By Felipe Buitrago
WHO SAID this is a recession? Apparently, there are enough punches and cash to go around for everyone. Those who didn't get enough last Saturday, when Nick Diaz gave Frank Shamrock a lesson in the cage at the Strikeforce event, needn't despair—more action and money are right around the corner.
American Metal and Iron Fight Night at the Tank will be returning in a new format with new fighters on May 7 at HP Pavilion. This edition, titled "The Next Chapter, Featuring NorCal vs. SoCal," will include seven bouts and at least one female bout. All fights will have a "You Be the Judge" format where fans can show their support for their favorite fighter of the evening. The winner by applause will receive the AMI Cup filled to the brim with a $1,000 bonus.
The format will also pit the two teams against each other by way of cash bonuses. At $300 a fight, the two teams will be fighting for $2,100. Add to that the "Quickest Knockout Award" of $500. But the fighters won't be the only people taking home spare cash. There will be $100 give-aways between bouts.
THE AMERICAN METAL AND IRON FIGHT NIGHT will take place May 7 at HP Pavilion, 525 W. Santa Clara St., San Jose. Call 800.745.3000 for ticket info.
