STRINGERS: The Alturas Duo performs Saturday for the South Bay Guitar Society.

The South bay Guitar Society welcomes the Alturas Duo to town. The twosome will perform classical and Latin American music on guitar, viola and charango. This program features works by Telemann, Bach and several Chilean composers. The music will be preceded by a talk and demonstration at 2pm with the players. On Sunday, also at Le Petit Trianon, the Ives Quartet finishes its South Bay season with a performance of Beethoven's Quartet in D Major, Dohnanyi's Piano Quintet in C Minor (with guest artist Christopher Basso) and a brand-new work by Dan Becker commissioned for the group. This weekend brings a choral two-fer from SJSU. On Friday, the university's Chamber Singers perform The Unclosed Ring in Campbell. On Sunday, on campus, the Concert Choir and Women's Chorus presents Songs of Heaven and Earth. Both concerts will be lead by Amanda Quist. Friday (April 24) at 7:30pm; Campbell United Methodist Church, 1675 Winchester Blvd., Campbell; and Sunday (Apr 26) at 3pm; SJSU Concert Hall, Music Building; the concerts are $10–$25 each; 408.924.4645.

For those who don't like those bustling weekend classical crowds, on Monday Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire gives a solo performance of pieces by Chopin, Bach, Brahms and Debussy.
