Bernstein said knock you out: Al Bernstein will be the special guest host at Fight Night at the Tank Thursday, May 24.
Lights Out in the Tank
By Felipe Buitrago
SAN JOSE will get started on its rolling blackout early this year when seven-time world champion James "Lights Out" Toney and Danny "Danny Boy" Batchelder weigh in for Metal & Iron Fight Night at the Tank on Wednesday. May 23, at the Clarion Hotel at the airport, with the fight at HP Pavilion the next day. With a record like Toney's—with 69 fights under his belt, 49 won by KO—it deserves the presence of one of the major voices in boxing, Al Bernstein. Stage performer, radio host and recording artist, Bernstein started as a writer for Boxing Illustrated and Ring nagazine in the '70s. Like Howard Cosell and Bert Sugar, he became one of the most notable sports commentators, broadcasting more than 2,500 matches with 57 different broadcast partners. In his 25-year career, Bernstein has been through three arena blackouts—we'll see how Lights Out measures up. Join Bernstein and other rabid boxing fans Wednesday, May 23, for the weigh-in and then again for the main event Thursday, May 24, at the HP Pavilion.
