FROM weigh-in to way out, American Metal and Iron Fight Night at the Tank does not disappoint. On Wednesday night at the Clarion Hotel at the San Jose airport, Emanuel Steward, who has a long track record of training some of the sport's greatest, will be attending the weigh-in. Steward himself tallied up a boxing record of 95 wins to three defeats and won the National Golden Gloves tournament in 1963. Almost a decade later, he became a part-time head coach at Kronk Gym in Detroit, where he trained Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns, among many others. Now a commentator on HBO's World Championship Boxing, Steward will be witness to some of California's local talent. The bouts begin on Thursday (Sept. 13) and include such favorites and repeat-offenders as Jesus "Chuy" Rodriguez, who is returning to San Jose from Salinas after a 10-round unanimous decision in his last fight against Hector Alatorre at the Civic Auditorium. This time, he will be in the ring with Priest Smalls, who carries an 18-14-1 record. Also on the bill is Jose Celaya, in his fifth appearance at the Tank. He will be going 10 rounds as the main event against Steve "The Spoiler" Walker from Missouri. Walker will be bringing his 21 (15 by KO) and 15 record to the ring.
