Food Trends That Must Die

By Stett Holbrook

IT'S TRUE that there's no accounting for taste, but here are food trends that I think should be retired at once.

Beet and Goat Cheese Salad Once upon a time, this was an interesting dish. Now it's as tired as it is ubiquitous.

Crème Brûlée When did every restaurant in America put this on their menu? The madness must stop.

Low-Carb Anything Leave it to Americans to take good advice (eat carbohydrates in moderation) to an unhealthy extreme. Long live bread.

Meatloaf Meatloaf was the flagship dish of the comfort food rebellion that swept fine restaurants across the land. But the homey dish has made itself a little too comfortable in the dining rooms of America and now it's time for it to go home. OK, bye-bye.

Molten Chocolate Cake Like its custardy cousin crème brûlée, molten chocolate cake has become as old and predictable as the lies issuing from Dick Cheney's mouth.
