NEARLY 40 years ago, Garrick Ohlsson distinguished himself as the first American to win the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition. He went on to become the Michael Jordan of classical masters like Mozart and Beethoven. The Bay Area resident won a Grammy Award in 2008; the Steinway Society of the Bay Area presents Ohlsson performing a program that includes works by Beethoven and Alexander Scriabin.
