Symphony Silicon Valley The venerable George Cleve of Mozart Festival fame steps in as the guest conductor for Symphony Silicon Valley. In addition to Mozart, Cleve knows his way around Brahms, which should make this performance of Symphony no. 3 memorable. The rest of the evening features Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune and Schumann's Piano Concerto, with guest artist Seymour Lipkin. Jose Luis Hurtado and Quinteto Latino A woodwind quartet from Mexico collaborates with composer José Luis Hurtardo on a weekend of cutting-edge classical sounds. In addition to the concerts, MACLA will be hosting open rehearsals with the group. The program covers some premieres by Hurtado plus pieces by Mexican composer Mario Lavista. El Camino Youth Symphony Camilla Kolchinsky leads the symphony through Braham's Symphony no. 2, Saint-Saëns' Violin Concert no. 3, Weber's Clarinet Concerto no. 2 and Enesco's Rumanian Rhapsody no. 1. Clarinetist Florence Hsiao and violinist Timothy Yu will show off their concerto-competition-winning form. This is the South Bay's first chance to hear the symphony after its Baltic tour. Saturday (Oct. 27) at 7:30pm; Flint Center, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino; $5/$10; 650.213.7111.Nova Vista Symphony Cellist Larry Granger (who regularly bows for the San Francisco Symphony) sits in as guest soloist with Ann Krinitsky's Nova Vista Symphony for Haydn's Cello Concerto no. 2. The rest of the program features two other "Towering Titans" of the classical repertoire: Beethoven (Fidelio Overture) and Mahler (Symphony no. 1). Ohlone Wind Orchestra For its fall concert, the wind ensemble, directed by Tony Clements, welcomes trumpeter Mike Vax. Vax will perform a variety of wind selections, included "Bugler's Holiday" and "Dramatic Essay." Also scheduled are selections from Holst's The Planets.
