MAKING THE SCENE: Fahrenheit Ultra Lounge beckons clubbers with cool elegance.

Ne Plus Ultralounge

By Colleen Watson

I MUST ADMIT, I'm not the biggest fan of ultralounges. But I was recently at Fahrenheit in San Jose, and I have to say I had a really good time.

You walk in past two burly bouncers down a red carpet, so for about two seconds it's possible to pretend you're someone worth knowing. The dimly lit bar is filled with beautiful people, and the DJ is pumping out dance music. There is usually a bit of a line on the weekends, but it's worth the small wait. Fahrenheit is intimate, with small separate seating areas where you can just hang out with your friends. In addition to being cute, the talented mixologists will often put on a show as well. Oh, and a big plus, the bathrooms are clean (I can't stress how important this is in a bar).

And though it might seem a little on the highbrow side, Fahrenheit shows its silly side on Monday nights with some of my favorites: karaoke and Rock Band. I mean how many ultralounges have video games? Fahrenheit is kind of a gateway ultralounge—fun rather than pretentious. Soon, I might have to try out some of the South Bay's other late-night glitterati destinations.
