Letters to the Editor

Payback Time

I read Gary Singh's article about Dennis ("Erectus: Another Monument," Silicon Alleys, Dec. 6).

He's one of the reasons why I have my sick sense of humor. This man made a Big Noise when I was also 12 years old. I was not always happy with the sick shit he played, but me made me laugh so hard.

He had the balls to go where no else dared to play. Gotta dig that about Dennis.

I am here to help Dennis, if I can. Does he need someone to care for his animals? How about house cleaning? Food to be cooked ? Does he have family to help him? Are there enough people to watch him at night? There are many questions to ask.

I am blessed with a job that I get off at 3:30pm. I work for the government also. I am a widow with time on her hands and would so much like to repay Dennis for all he has inspired in me. My dad had a massive heart attack and passed away, so I kinda know what goes on with the family.

So again, if I can Help Dennis in any way, let me know.

Marching Orders

Ted Rall, I have just sent this memo to dozens of my contacts within a statewide network of those in American Legion and AMVETS interested in National Security, as well as many friends. Thank you for doing this piece ("Blue in the Face," MetroNews, Nov. 15) in the paper.

Subject: National Security

Our form of government is based upon the Constitution.

My oath as a 2LT in the U.S. Army on January of 1964 included the statement, "to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." I intend to do just that as long as I am still breathing!

There appears to be a serious threat to the Constitution! I WISH I WAS WRONG! STUDY THIS ISSUE AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF! You veterans that read this have pledged to give your life for your country, now devote a few hours to saving your country! Study this information and make your own conclusions! Senate Bill 3930, S3930, The Military Commissions Act, passed by 65 to 34 out of the Senate on Sept. 28, 2006. That bill and other assorted documents have been signed by President Bush which set aside parts of the Constitution that are vital to the freedom of United States citizens!

What millions of those in the military of the USA for the last 200 years have fought and died for, or been ready to do so, has been significantly weakened by 65 senators and a president.

Do not think that abuse of power is not possible in the USA. The Germans made that mistake in the 1930s and 1940s and they suffered greatly for it.

Some lawyers are already saying that parts of these actions will be found to be unconstitutional and invalid. That is not good enough! Contact your congressional representatives and demand they repair this situation right now!

An article has just appeared in Metro which echoes my feelings. Metro can be accessed by going to www.metroactive.com then go to "news and features" and click on "Democrats' victory."

If after you have studied this subject, and if you reach the same conclusion that I have reached, forward this to everyone you know who considers themselves a patriot, has the brains to understand the importance of this matter, has an interest in saving our country from fascism, and has courage enough to say something about it! When the Titanic was sinking, there were those that got in a life boat and there were those that busied themselves with rearranging the deck chairs.

Which group are you in?

I've Been Working on the Railroad Mag

Thank you for running the article "Train Town" (MetroArts, Dec. 6). I have known the author of Railroads of Los Gatos for a number of years and am pleased to see that his book has been published. Mr. Kelley has authored several articles for our magazine, the Grand Scales Quarterly, including an article on the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad. This young gentleman has always been a delight to work with. His knowledge and appreciation for railroading and railroad history is appreciated by people of all ages. Congratulations to Mr. Kelley. We hope to see many more books in the future.

Tryin' to Snatch My Crops

Re: www.metroactive.com/papers/metro/07.22.99/cover/marijuana-9929.html: I was reading an article that popped up on the Internet while researching for a school paper, and none of the links in your article worked. I guess maybe it is because the article was about marijuana, and the link may be being censored out—I guess, but I wanted to see those websites, and I couldn't. Bummer.

Mary M., Siler City, N.C.

OK, Mary, put down the Cheetos and step away from the bag. Those sites that no longer exist might have been shut down by The Man, it's true. Or they might be gone because ... that story is 7 years old!—Editor
