Throughout the year, we work at the speed of Silicon Valley. We travel and zip around, we text, we watch our screens and tap on our devices. We embrace the post-millenial digital age.
Once a year it all slows down. We take days off work, spend time with one another. We hug, unplug, eat instead of tweet. Cloud storage brings rain to our gardens and snow to the slopes.
One of the best ways to unplug is to wander out of cell coverage on a mountain path with a friend. The bounty of local trails that ring Silicon Valley includes Rancho San Antonio, Hidden Village, the Stevens Creek Trail, Villa Montalvo, Sierra Vista, Alum Rock Park, Castle Rock and the Stanford Dish.
And when it comes time to exchange tangible goods, locally sourced and produced products from independent retailers make for good holiday investments. Money spent locally keeps on giving because it improves our communities and spreads the wealth.
We’ve collected a few of our favorites to compile this guide.
