Though born and raised in New Jersey, Michela Musolino always felt connected to her homeland of Sicily. As the granddaughter of Sicilian émigrés to America, Musolino grew up in two worlds, straddling the contemporary and the ancient. As a singer, she spent years researching the folk songs of Sicilian Italy and now reinterprets them in a manner that weaves the ancient and modern with an ethereal, almost angelic voice. With her latest release, Musolino interprets the down-home sounds of her chosen home of Memphis, Tennessee, with Sicilian folk traditions in an alluring, energetic hybrid she calls Sicilian Folk-a-Billy.
