LENNY WILLIAMS is used to collaborating with a lot of instruments. As lead singer of Tower of Power, he projected his vocals over nearly a dozen instrumentalists in full jam mode. That’s good prep for his collaboration at this Music in the Park show with Prince Damons, who can whip out any of the 13 instruments in his repertoire at any time (OK, it’s not that easy to whip out a piano, but I saw the Roadrunner do it one time.) Though both of these suave soulsters are rooted firmly in R&B, expect some hip-hop touches, since Damons has been collaborating recently with E40, Too Short and other Oakland icons. Hell, as hip-hop connections go, that’s nothing: Williams has had a huge influence on the genre, and his solo hit “‘Cause I Love You” has been sampled by everyone from Kanye to Scarface. Still, Damons upcoming solo debut is called Atmospheric Soul, which describes nicely what these two will deliver.
