Born in the Mojave Desert, MacArthur “Genius” Fellow Natalie Diaz is a Native American poet and writer known for her powerful exploration of identity, language and cultural heritage. Diaz draws upon her Native roots in her writing as a springboard to address larger social issues. Her first story collection, 2012’s When My Brother Was an Aztec, earned acclaim for its unvarnished and forthright approach. Diaz’s latest, 2020’s Postcolonial Love Poem, won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. At this event presented by the Center for Literary Arts, Diaz will read from her second collection.
