In the spirit of Doris Day and Joan Rivers, singer-songwriter Nellie McKay channels old Hollywood glamor into witty work from a fresh, feminist perspective. Few musicians manage to garner acclaim across the wide artistic spectrum McKay has traveled in her two-decade career, appearing in Broadway shows, writing for TV and movies, gaining fans at SXSW and once even opening on tour for the Barenaked Ladies. Bob Boilin of NPR describes her as reminiscent of “a young Judy Garland” but with a progressive, satirical spark fit for the 2020s. Local promotor Earthwise brings this radical, charming chanteuse to the South Bay this weekend.
