AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF of planning and construction, Club V finally opened its doors in late December to a curious, pleasure-seeking crowd of 1,200. Owner Rick Haynes plans to keep club-goers coming back for more with future special events, big-name DJs and a constantly evolving interior. Within the next several months, more dance floors will open, as well as a stage with a catwalk, perfect for future events such as fashion shows and other live entertainment.
A bit difficult to find at first, Club V's nondescript concrete facade is a complete contradiction to the audiovisual overload inside. Not a single inch of the 20,000-square-foot club is safe from colorful pulsating lights, giant movie screens and disco balls. In addition to eye candy, a 80,000-watt sound system pumps rhythm into the atmosphere, synching up with the dressed-to-impress bodies moving on the dance floor.
Aside from all the dancing, the main room has two bars with one specializing in various drinks from tequila to beer depending on the night. For those out for alcohol, bar manager Armando "Mondussa" Coffey presents patrons with "The Wall"--a third bar, featuring 102 different kinds of alcohol, ranging from Heineken to Hennessy XO and Galliano to Grey Goose, allowing bartenders to make everything from Bloody Marys to Harvey Wallbangers. While most patrons enjoy the Incredible Hulk (Hennessy and Hpnotiq), the brave should try Mondussa's concoction, "Tap Water," comprising more than 20 different alcohols. Barely a month old, Fremont's newest dance club shows potential to compete with the big boys in San Francisco.
