Scoping dredg Last Saturday's show with Floppy Rods, Divided and Zero Theory sold out Cactus By Sarah Quelland BEFORE THIRD BAND Floppy Rods hit the stage last Saturday (Jan. 27) at the Cactus Club, there was still a line of people waiting to get inside. Even people stepping outside for some fresh air had to wait in line to get back inside the club. Between dredg, Floppy Rods, Divided and Zero Theory, the venue was packed to capacity. Likely, many people showed up to check out Interscope Records hopeful dredg, which is very close to finalizing a deal with the major label. Next Thursday (Feb. 8) will be a very busy day for local entertainment. In addition to the A Perfect Circle/Snake River Conspiracy show at the SJSU Event Center and the L.A. Guns/Los Bastardos de Amor/Zero Hour show at the Usual, Metro presents the West Coast premiere of Cuba's Paulito FG y su Elite with Charanga Nueve at the Bankers Club in downtown San Jose. ... The Forgotten's guitarist Craig Fairbaugh will be touring with Rancid's Lars Frederiksen's side project, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards. The group has an album due out in March and will be taking Fairbaugh on tour. Catch both bands at the American Legion Hall in Campbell on Feb. 3, along with Pressure Point, Uncle Lucifer and the Vex. The all ages show runs 6pm-midnight and tickets are $5. ... Outtaline has a new EP out. Visit www.outtaline.com for more info. ... The old Rio Theater in Santa Cruz is starting to hold live shows. On Jan. 19, Slow Gherkin performed. It looks like the next big one will be held Feb. 10 with the Promise Ring and Time Spent Driving. ... Sunnyvale-based the Orange Peels have a new album titled So Far available on SpinArt and will hold a record-release show Feb. 10 at 5pm at the Mod Lang record store in Berkeley. Details on the ninth annual Noise Pop festival, Feb. 27-March 4 at various clubs in San Francisco (including Slim's, Bottom of the Hill, Great American Music Hall, Cafe du Nord and Bimbo's 365), are being finalized. The lineup includes Superchunk, Girls Against Boys, Grandaddy, Creeper Lagoon, Spoon, Bright Eyes, the Bellrays, Pedro the Lion, 764-HERO, the Minus 5, the White Stripes, Crooked Fingers, Beulah and the Fastbacks. ... Insolence is touring with Insane Clown Posse and will perform Feb. 21 at Maritime Hall. The new album should be out May 22. ... Static-X has a new album coming out soon with former Dope guitarist Tripp Eisen replacing Koichi Fukuda. ... The Icon Supperclub has moved its grand opening celebration to Feb. 15. The big event of the new restaurant and nightclub is by invitation only (invites are available at Agenda Lounge or the Icon) and will feature performances by the Anton Schwarz Quartet and the Toledo Show. ... The Michael Monroe/Enuff Z'Nuff show scheduled for Feb. 1 at the Usual has been canceled. ... The Long Beach Dub Allstars show scheduled for Feb. 9 at the Warfield has also been canceled. Apparently people have been wondering why local Latin jazz percussionist Jorge Bermudez and his band the Bermudez Triangle haven't been performing recently. Bermudez went into the hospital for routine back surgery in early November and came out with 70-percent hearing loss in his left ear. He's been in therapy to restore his hearing and now suffers a 25 percent hearing loss. He says he plans to start performing again this spring. Visit www.bermudeztriangle.com for updates.
