Album Alerts Seems like just about every band around has got a new CD on the way By Sarah Quelland THESE DAYS, the soundtrack has become a key element when it comes to blockbuster movies, especially the films aimed at a younger, hipper demographic. Selling an image as much as a story, Scream 3's soundtrack boasts some of the hottest heavyweights of the rock & roll industry, with contributions by Slipknot, System of a Down, Sevendust, Static-X, Orgy, Powerman 5000, Dope and Staind. The producers enlisted Creed to put the whole thing together. The latest soundtrack album worth listening to is attached to the upcoming movie The Crow: Salvation, which stars Eric Mabius, Kirsten Dunst, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe and Fred Ward. The soundtrack is due on shelves March 28, and it features new songs and remixes by Filter, Rob Zombie, Kid Rock, Hole, Monster Magnet, Tricky, Stabbing Westward, the Crystal Method, Danzig and others. Rob Zombie's remix of "Living Dead Girl" and Static-X's cover of Ministry's "Burning Inside" (featuring Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell) are of particular note, and the Infidels' "Bad Brother," featuring excerpts of Juliette Lewis as Mallory Knox in Natural Born Killers, takes an unusual approach. There are quite a few new albums on the way, including the Melvins' latest, titled The Crybaby, and the Violent Femmes' Freak Magnet, which are due out March 7. The eels' Daisies of the Galaxy and Ian Moore's and all the colors... are scheduled for March 14. Pantera's Reinventing the Steel, the Reverend Horton Heat's Spend a Night in the Box, Ween's White Pepper, Flogging Molly's Swagger and Mr. Big's Get Over It should be on shelves March 21. Kiss' Alive IV, Catatonia's Equally Cursed & Blessed, Goldfinger's Stomping Ground and the exies self-titled debut are due out March 28. Old Time Relijun's Sirena de Pacera and Lou Reed's latest, Ecstasy, are scheduled for April 4. No Doubt's long-awaited Return to Saturn is due out April 14. Papa Roach's much-anticipated Infest is due out April 25. Eminem, who actually won a Grammy Award in the category of "Outstanding Rap Solo Performance" for his single "My Name Is ... ," is working on his sophomore release, due in May. The Deftones newest, The White Pony, has been pushed back to a summer release. On a local level, Adverse Side-FX, which has a new album out, titled A Tale of Lunatic Daring, performs at the Cactus Club this Friday (March 3) with Sounds of Sight and Brickhead. ... No Use for a Name has a show coming up next Friday (March 10) with Limp, OuttaLine and HBA (which releases its new CD, Whisker Biscuit, on White Trash Taco Records). Soul Aggression has a show the same night at the Chemical Free Zone with Curbside, South 85 and Counter Attack. Soul Aggression's latest CD, Global Warning, will be available at the show. There's some exciting shows coming through the area: Bad Religion performs tonight (March 2) at Maritime Hall in San Francisco; Korn and Staind perform tomorrow night (March 3) at the Oakland Arena; Filter and Oleander perform at the Warfield in San Francisco on March 4; Lords of Acid perform at Maritime Hall on March 12; Papa Roach performs at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz on March 16; George Clinton performs on March 19 at the Warfield; Methods of Mayhem perform at the Fillmore on March 20; Fiona Apple performs on March 22 at the Warfield; Kiss presents its farewell tour on March 23 at the Oakland Arena; No Doubt performs on April 15 at the Warfield; the Reverend Horton Heat performs at Maritime Hall on April 15 and at the Catalyst on April 16; and on the pop tip, Got Milk? (no, I'm not making this up) presents sometimes-controversial teen sensation Britney Spears at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View on Aug. 8. Tickets are $40/$25.
