Neighbors Unite

By Genevieve Roja

Interested in starting your own neighborhood association? United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County--a nonprofit coalition of neighborhood associations (37 and growing)--provides services and facilitates discussions between neighborhood groups. To join, associations pay an annual membership fee of $45. For more information, call 408.286.8661 or visit the office at 525 W. Alma St. in San Jose. To view the group's website, go to www.unscc.org.

There are countless neighborhood associations forming across the valley, and it's likely most city governments are familiar with several. Call your local city government and ask for information about your local neighborhood association.
