Montalvo Ramps Up for Season

Big names in jazz and pop fill summer schedule for Villa Montalvo and Mountain Winery

SUMMER IS STILL about three months away, but music bookers never sleep. Villa Montalvo, one of the area's most active performing-arts showcases announced its schedule this week. With four venues (the Garden Theatre, Carriage House and Front Lawn at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga and the renovated Fox Theatre in Redwood City), the series has something for just about every audience except fans of thrash-metal ragtime.

Ticket sales begin Thursday (March 21) for members of the Friends of Montalvo; the general public will have to wait until April 12. The Montalvo box office number is 408.961.5858, and the website is www.villamontalvo.org. Tickets are also available through Ticketmaster at 408.998.8497 or 415.421.8497. The season's highlights are listed below (most shows are evening concerts unless otherwise indicated); see the website for complete details.

June 6-7: Guitars & Saxes, with Jeff Golub, Richard Ellliot, Warren Hill and Marc Antoine at the Garden Theatre.
June 12: Wynton Marsalis at the Garden Theatre.
June 23: Buena Vista Social Club presents Omara Portuondo at 4pm on the Front Lawn.
June 27: Greg Brown and Iris Dement at the Garden Theatre.
July 1: Dan Fogelberg at the Fox Theatre.
July 7: Shawn Colvin on the Front Lawn.
July 10: The Chieftains at the Garden Theatre.

July 23-24: Kenny Loggins at the Garden Theatre.
July 25: Audio Adrenaline (Christian rock) at the Garden Theatre.

July 31: The Isley Brothers at the Garden Theatre.
Aug. 1: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the Garden Theatre.
Aug. 2: David Sanborn at the Garden Theatre.
Aug. 4: Dave Koz and Friends, with James Ingram, Norman Brown and Brian Culbertson at 4pm on the Front Lawn.
Aug. 7: Midsummer Mozart at the Garden Theatre.
Aug. 11: Boney James at Garden Theatre.
Aug. 14: Diana Ross at the Garden Theatre. (Note: Gala event, so be prepared to pony up the big bucks.)
