Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley Announces 2003-04 Season Fresh off a crowd-pleasing weekend of Michael Smuin's version of The Tempest, Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley announced its plans for the 2003-04 season. The highlights include two works by Martha Graham, the queen of American choreographers, and a premiere of a piece by Flemming Flindt. The Graham pieces are Appalachian Spring, based on the famed suite by Aaron Copland, and the solo work Frontier. One of Graham's prime followers, Yuriko, who danced with Graham for many years, will stage the two dances. Company director Dennis Nahat studied with Graham when he was a student at Juilliard. Flindt's Out of Africa, first created under the title Lucifer's Daughter in 1992, has been rechoreographed "on pointe" for the company, with a score by Carl Nielsen, featuring African music. The seasons programs are: Oct. 16-19, 2003: Appalachian Spring, plus Michael Smuin's Stravinsky Piano Pieces and US, a showcase of American popular dance. Dec. 12-28: The Nutcracker. Dec. 29, 2003-Jan. 3, 2004: The ballet hosts the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico Holiday Program Feb. 5-8, 2004: Coppélia, the famous tale of a toy maker and his efforts to animate his favorite doll. Choreographed by Nahat. March 25-28: Out of Africa by Flemming Flindt. May 6-9, 2004: The company debut of one of Lew Christensen's last works, the pas de deux Four Norwegian Moods, set to a score by the Igor Stravinsky, plus Frontier by Martha graham and Go Daddy-O! by Dennis Nahat. The programs take place at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts, 255 Almaden Blvd., San Jose. Subscriptions are $80-$240 Single tickets are $22-$68.
