Shoreline announces concert season
By Gina Arnold
SHORELINE Amphitheater in Mountain View has just announced its initial summer lineup, which includes shows by John Cougar Mellencamp (June 1), 14-year-old Grammy Awardwinner Leanne Rimes (Aug. 9) and the Dave Matthews Band with Los Lobos (July 6).
As has been the case in recent years, the Shoreline's season ticket emphasis is on classic-rock acts such as the Allman Brothers, Steve Miller, Huey Lewis and UB40, country acts such as Vince Gill, Alan Jackson and Tracy Lawrence, and festivals. Subscriber tickets went on sale last Sunday; single-ticket sales will start May 18.
So far, the festival season includes "A Celebration of Women's Music," featuring Sarah Mclachlan, Jewel, Suzanne Vega, Paula Cole and more (July 8); the House of Blues' Smokin Grooves Tour, with George Clinton, Cypress Hill, the Roots and others (July 26); and the Furthur Festival, featuring the Black Crowes and various Grateful Dead spin-offs (Aug. 2).
One noticeable new trend at Shoreline is slightly lower ticket prices, due perhaps to last year's sluggish sales. With the exception of shows by John Mellencamp and Kenny G, which top out at $45, and Vince Gill, who is charging $35, most nonfestival tickets this year are under $30, with general admission (lawn) seats under $20.
Subscription tickets for the Summer Shoreline concert season are on sale now; individual concert tickets will go on sale in May. For ticket information, call BASS. Prices are for general admission (ga) and reserved (res) seating.
