Huey in the News Huey Lewis gets 'American Psycho' soundtrack pulled from record stores By Sarah Quelland IT SEEMS OUR REVIEW two weeks ago of the American Psycho soundtrack was a bit premature. Apparently, while Huey Lewis did agree to the use of his 1986 hit, "Hip to Be Square," in the film itself, he never gave clearance for its inclusion on the soundtrack. Initially scheduled for an April 4 release, the album has been recalled by Koch Records, which will reissue it without that song. Still, hundreds of copies are floating about, since Koch already shipped copies of the disc to stores in the U.S. and Canada and sent out plenty of promo copies to various print media and radio stations. The song will remain in the movie. Squeeze the Dog was a popular Bay Area band that won a Bammie back when the award meant something. Former members Chris Landon and Jerry Ososkie are getting together to jam with new material, old favorites and a few surprises. Check them out next Tuesday (April 25) at Fuel. ... Looking like something out of a Clive Barker movie and delivering primal aggression and pure rage, Slipknot has become one of the hottest bands on the metal circuit. Maritime Hall scored a date with the nine-piece band on April 30. Act fast. Tickets should be in high demand. ... The Smashing Pumpkins will be at the Berkeley Community Theatre on May 24. ... The Dixie Chicks are embarking on their first headlining tour. The country trio performs at the San Jose Arena on June 16 with Patti Griffin. Tickets go on sale April 30. ... It looks like LIVE 105's annual BFD will be held at Shoreline Amphitheatre on June 16 this year. Rumors of a bill that includes the Deftones, Slipknot, P.O.D. and Limp Bizkit (which is scheduled to release its next album on July 4) have surfaced, but nothing has been officially released yet. ... The Deftones have finally set a date for the release of their third album, White Pony. The album, which was recorded at the Plant in Sausalito and mixed in Los Angeles, should be on shelves June 20. It features 11 new songs, and Cypress Hill's B-Real and Tool's Maynard James Keenan contribute guest vocals on two different tracks. ... Keenan's side project, A Perfect Circle, releases its debut, Mer De Noms on May 23. The band is touring in the U.S. with Nine Inch Nails on its Fragile v 2.0 tour. ... No Doubt, which just released Return of Saturn, its long-anticipated follow-up to Tragic Kingdom, is scheduled to blow through town July 26. Gwen Stefani and her crew will perform at the SJSU Event Center with Lit and Black Eyed Peas. Papa Roach's debut on DreamWorks Records comes out next Tuesday (April 25). P-Roach holds its CD release at the Edge next Thursday (April 27) with Taproot, Salmon and dredg. It will be the last live rock show at the venue. ... Pearl Jam is set to release its sixth album, a 16-track monster titled Binaural, on May 16, a week before it kicks off its European tour. The first single, "Nothing As It Seems," has already been released in the U.S., and the first leg of its U.S. tour is slated to begin Aug. 3. Though venues have yet to be announced, Eddie Vedder and the crew are scheduled for a stop somewhere in San Francisco on Halloween (Oct. 31). Tickets are rumored to run between $26 and $30. Many may be familiar with Michael Sullivan and his frequent "Here and There" emailings. Sullivan used to work at the Edge, and has sent out a call for new music to be considered for review in his newsletter.
