Since the immaculate New Wave wonder years (and the odd This Is Not a Festival! and the 1990 Bay Area Skafest), the venerable Berkeley venue with the hard cement seats (bring cushions!) has been the host of Berkeley-friendly acts--heavy on the jam-and-twirl quotient. The 2002 schedule is overwhelmingly safe and, yes, twirly with Phil Lesh and Friends, Indigo Girls and Gipsy Kings. Still, it's early in the game; the Greek usually adds some funky last-minute bookings--Jill Scott in 2001 and Macy Gray in 2000 come to mind.
