Pockets

Reviewed by Nicole Pizzurro

A dark, smoky pool hall out of The Hustler this is not. Instead, Pockets is well-lighted, open and airy, with skylights gracing the ceiling and large paintings on the walls. The clean, smoke-free building features 13 elegantly carved pool tables and two rope-rimmed dart boards. Silicon Valley executives, locals, college students and families alike are attracted to this classy billiard parlor, which serves a modest selection of foods, including pizza, sandwiches, jalapeño poppers and chips and salsa.

In keeping with its trendy atmosphere, the beer-only bar offers a variety of microbrews on tap, including Full Sail, New Castle and Gordon Biersch. Customers looking to take a break from playing pool can opt to watch the big game on the big-screen TV or one of four strategically placed smaller tubes. Happy hour is 4-7pm, Monday-Friday, and features $2 selected draft beers and 25 percent off pool-table rentals.
