Club Four
514 S. Bascom Ave., San Jose; 408.295.4455; www.club4.com
By Sarah Quelland
CLUB FOUR is tucked away on the San Jose end of Bascom Avenue, with easy access on and off the I-280 and a fair amount of parking. It offers just about every amenity a person could hope for in a small club, including a pool table, darts, pinball, Megatouch game and a jukebox generously stocked with lots of blues, R&B, classic rock, country, pop, rock and funk CDs. They even have a working popcorn machine.
Because it's the "new" Club Four, many of the nights are still in development, but the 21-plus club is open seven days a week. Resident DJs bring out the dance crowd in big numbers with Rick Preston and Harry Who? every first and third Friday; Born Again every second and fifth Friday, and Aqueous (hosted by Shawn and Robbie) every fourth Friday. Meanwhile, live bands draw attentive audiences every Saturday, with Inq playing the first Saturday of every month. Sometime in July, Club Four plans to start hosting its equivalent of the old Cactus Club New View on Tuesday nights, where bands can play on a weeknight to vie for a spot on the weekend. This club can legally stay open until 4am and plans to lock up the liquor and exercise that option on some Fridays and holidays in the future.
Mondays: Jam Night
June 26: Hostility, the Venting Machine (formerly Breach) and others
