Metal Monster OzzFest promises music and mayhem with another beastly lineup By Sarah Quelland THIS YEAR'S OZZFEST may well be the biggest show of the summer with an epic lineup that has left many a metal fan salivating since it was first announced. The main stage acts alone are reason enough to get excited, with the legendary Black Sabbath headlining and Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Crazytown and Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society tearing it up. The festival has been organized differently this year, so fans won't have to miss a minute of the main stage action to catch the smaller bands on the second stages. Split between the Levi Stage and the Second Stage, other bands include Otep, Beautiful Creatures, American Head Charge, Pure Rubbish, Systematic, Hatebreed, Nonpoint, Drowning Pool, Godhead, Taproot, Union Underground and Mudvayne. OzzFest storms into Shoreline Amphitheatre tomorrow (June 29) with bands scheduled to start at 11am. Tickets are $43.75 general or $73.75 reserved and available through Ticketmaster. The Van's Warped Tour will be held Saturday (June 30) at Piers 30/32 in San Francisco with A.F.I., the Distillers, Fear, Fenix TX, H20, Less Than Jake, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and Rancid on the North Stage; 311, Alien Ant Farm, Bouncing Souls, Kool Keith, New Found Glory, Pennywise, the Juliana Theory and the Vandals on the South Stage; Bodyjar, Good Charlotte, Hank Williams III & Ass Jack, Liars Inc., Slightly Stoopid, Sugarcult, the Apex Theory and the Ataris on the Second Stage; and Deviates, Esham, Jackpot, Luckie Strike, Madcap, Pepper, Stunt Monkey, the Line and Userfriendly on the Volcom Stage. The show kicks off at noon, and tickets are $28 the day of the show. There's an all-ages Warped Tour after-party at the Pound with Stunt Monkey, Luckie Strike, Vegas DeMilo and Downside. Tickets for that are $8; doors open at 7pm. Sadly, local hero and international blues icon John Lee Hooker passed away last week. On July 8, JJ's Blues will honor his memory with a special barbecue. Friends and musicians are invited to pay tribute to the irreplaceable bluesman. Help Jimmy Arceneaux celebrate his birthday this Saturday (June 30) at the Cactus Club with Krenshaw, Reaction 31, Moodfrye, Divided, Jones, Ones and Zeros and Los Bastardos de Amor, along with special guests. ... On July 1, Monkey holds a special all-ages show at the Cactus and on July 2 the old British punk band 999 makes a special appearance. Members of Fang also perform, along with Mad Parade and Manic Notion. This year's Mix 106 Concert for the Homeless features headliners the Bangles with Kina, Michelle Branch and Nicki Love. The show will be held next Tuesday (July 3) in Discovery Meadow with gates opening at 4pm. Tickets are $10, and proceeds benefit the Emergency Housing Consortium. ... The Icon Supperclub is holding an Independence Day bash next Tuesday (July 3) as well, with $2 drink specials. DJs Rated R, Fabian and Scott will be spinning in the main room and L. Diggy will play groove and R&B in the backroom. The first 500 people get a new Icon VIP card. ... Ultravibe.com holds the round-two semifinals next Friday (July 6) at the Cactus with a special appearance by Caiba and an after-party with Krenshaw.
