True to Primer Kevin Jackson leaves True to Form and takes up the drums for Primer 55 By Sarah Quelland AFTER SIGNING ON as the new drummer for up-and-coming Island Records recording artist Primer 55, a band that's playing on the second stage on this year's touring metal festival OzzFest 2000 (read the full story), former True to Form drummer Kevin Jackson was given a casual San Jose-style sendoff at the Cactus Club last Thursday (June 22). Since establishing itself years ago with a little help from U2's success, Island Records has released albums by a variety of artists including experienced veterans Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffett and Tom Waits, and edgier acts like Biohazard, Full Devil Jacket, Insane Clown Posse, Supergrass, Method Man & Redman and Jay-Z. Primer 55's album, Introduction to Mayhem, is already in stores. Other bands lined up for OzzFest are Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Static-X, Soulfly, Methods of Mayhem, Godsmack, Incubus, Kittie, Disturbed, P.O.D., Queens of the Stone Age, Apartment 26, Taproot, Pitchshifter, Crazytown, the Deadlights, Slaves on Dope, Pumpjack and Shuvel. OzzFest comes to Shoreline Amphitheatre Aug. 26. After closing down the Edge last April to make room for a new upscale supperclub tentatively called the Icon (which is still under construction), club owner Jacek Rosicki has made some serious changes to South First Street's Agenda Lounge as well. The multi-level club now offers one cover charge for access to all of the venue's amenities, which include DJ dancing downstairs in the Cellar and in the upstairs Lounge, along with a jazz and cigar bar and a smoking patio located on the ground level. In addition, the club is looking to hire someone to book new artists and do extensive event planning and marketing. Limp Bizkit's unprecedented free tour with Cypress Hill, sponsored by the controversial MP3 site Napster, has been pushed back a week. The previously scheduled two-day stop July 28-29 at the SJSU Event Center has been cancelled and new dates remain unconfirmed. Limp Bizkit's third album, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, is due out in September. The Vans Warped Tour will be held this Saturday (July 1) at Pier 30/32 in San Francisco and gets rolling at noon. Included in the lineup are the South Bay's Stunt Monkey and Boy Kicks Girl, along with Green Day, Papa Roach, Weezer, the Donnas, Good Riddance, Flogging Molly, NOFX, MxPx, Long Beach Dub Allstars, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Jurassic 5, Millencollin, Hot Water Music, One Man Army, Snapcase, T.S.O.L., Anti-Flag, the Suicide Machines, the Dickies, Lefty, Lunachicks, Dover, the Deviates, Potluck, Too Bad Eugene, Relish, the Line, Bueno, My Superhero, Stingrays, Cheap Leis, the Toledo Show and Full Metal Racket. An after-party with Swarm, Thick As Thieves and American Heartbreak is being held at the Paradise Lounge in San Francisco. 21-plus only. With the release of its latest album, Pop Trash, '80s icon Duran Duran is heading on tour. The group, now working as a trio, features founding members Simon LeBon and Nick Rhodes along with guitarist Warren Cuccurullo. Duran Duran will perform Sept. 3 at the Redwood Amphitheatre inside Paramount's Great America. Other acts scheduled for the amphitheater throughout the summer include Stroke 9 this Friday (June 30), Chubby Checker (July 4), Weird Al Yankovic (July 30), Fiesta Hispana with Los Lobos, Yeska and Gipsyland (Aug. 6), Martina McBride (Aug. 11) and Newsboys (Oct. 7). All concerts are free with park admission. ... Country music's power couple is coming to town. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will be at the San Jose Arena July 31.
