I.B.O.P.A. gets soaked by Spongebath By Sarah Quelland SPONGEBATH RECORDS, the subsidiary of Elektra Records that picked up I.B.O.P.A., has dropped about 90 percent of its roster, including I.B.O.P.A. In light of that news, the band is calling it quits. I.B.O.P.A.'s final performance will be at the Grand Fanali Presents Fourth of July Celebration with Monkey and Millennium Funk Party. The all-ages event, featuring pony rides, a petting zoo, astro jumps, slides, food, games and a pie-eating contest, will be held July 4, 11am-5pm at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. Don't get depressed just yet, though. Five members of I.B.O.P.A are starting a new band called 10 in the Swear Jar. Says Jamie Stewart, "I'm super, super excited about the new stuff we're doing," which he describes as more acoustic, more electronic, more experimental and more serious, but still incorporating a pop element. A new music publication called VAMP (Valley's Alternative Music Press) launches its first issue today (July 1). Smash Mouth is rumored to be on the cover, and Swerver is also participating, and according to acting manager Rees Roberts, the band will be featured in commercials for the new mag airing on MTV and on Comedy Central during South Park. After a successful show June 20 in Sacramento at the 98 Rock Jamboree Three with Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Staind, Oleander and others, Papa Roach has been added to the upcoming Vans Warped Tour with Pennywise, Blink 182, Eminem (who replaced Cypress Hill), Lit, Molotov, Sevendust, the Living End, Black Eyed Peas, Less Than Jake, the Vandals, Suicidal Tendencies, Dropkick Murphys, Ice-T, 7 Seconds, Grinspoon, Bouncing Souls, All Systems Go, Amazing Crowns, Zebrahead, River Fenix, Leatherface, Porkers, Common Sense, Rockstar Barbecue and the Inland Empire Orchestra. It all happens July 3 in the Oakland Arena parking lot. ... The day before (July 2), the Vacaville-based band supports the Lonely Kings' CD-release party at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz with Loadstar. ... While I'm not about to recommend this show, if you're interested in watching someone regurgitate at will (yuck!), shock metal band Skitzo brings its freaky show to the Quarter Note in Sunnyvale on July 2 with Metalmorphosis. ... The band that's been through the desert on a horse with no name, America, presents a free concert, sponsored by KSAN-FM (107.7), July 7, 5:30pm at Cesar Chavez Park in San Jose. ... Erotic Dolls hosts a naughty fetish fashion show at the Usual, July 6. Salmon, Swarm and Criminal Network will perform.
