Ozz Sounds The album follows hard on heels of concert By Sarah Quelland TALK ABOUT A QUICK turnaround. The soundtrack to this year's OzzFest arrives Aug. 14. Titled OzzFest 2001: The Second Millennium, the collection, recorded over two days during the early stages of the tour, includes Black Sabbath's "The Wizard," Marilyn Manson's "The Love Song," Slipknot's "New Abortion," Papa Roach's "Blood Brothers," Linkin Park's "With You," Disturbed's "Fear," Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society's "Superterrorizer," Mudvayne's "Death Blooms," Drowning Pool's "Bodies," Union Underground's "Southern Texas Deathride," Otep's "Filthee," Nonpoint's "What a Day," Hatebreed's "Last Breath," Systematic's "Deep Colors Bleed," Pure Rubbish's "Kiss of Death" and American Head Charge's "Reach and Touch." Another major tour, WATCHA, now in its third year, is gearing up for a 20-city tour and plans to release a compilation on Sept. 6 representing bands from all three years. The Latin rock festival, which is scheduled to stop at the San Jose State Event Center on Sept. 9, includes Los Amigos Invisibles, Kool Keith, Juanes, Molotov, Vallejo, Bersuit, Enanitos Verdes and Zurdock. The accompanying CD offers tracks by artists from Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Spain; among them are Los Auténticos Decadentes, Todos Tus Muertos, Bersuit Vergarabat, El Otro Yo, Enanitos Verdes, Illya Kuryaki & the Valderramas, Control Machete, Maldita Vecindad, Zurdok, Resorte, Café Tacuba, Molotov, Atercioplados, Juanes, Puya and Dover. Routed this direction on its latest sprint, Insolence returned to its hometown last Thursday (July 19) to play the Cactus Club with Corporate Avenger. Near the end of the tour, the band returns to the Bay Area to perform at Slim's in San Francisco on Aug. 15. ... Deftones was forced to cancel its date at Shoreline Amphitheatre with Godsmack last Tuesday (July 17) because vocalist Chino Moreno is reportedly suffering from inflamed and paralyzed vocal cords. He's seeing a specialist, and the band hopes to rejoin the tour soon. Though initially scheduled to perform two shows this Friday (July 27), one at Raging Waters and one at the Outhouse in Los Gatos, the Campfire Tour featuring Dan Potthust from MU330, the Huxtables, Venice Shoreline Chris, Close to Home and the Velvet Teen will only be playing at the Outhouse. The show is all-ages, tickets are $6, and doors are at 7pm. Upcoming shows at the Outhouse include Under a Dying Sun, the Mercury Program, Selah and A Burning Water (Aug. 3) and Eleventeen, Janis Figure, NCS and Lender (Aug. 10). The Velvet Teen is also participating in a land-mine removal benefit presented by Will It Burn Music this Saturday (July 28) at Cafe du Nord in San Francisco with Xiu Xiu, Deerhoof, Bevin Blectum and Danielle De Gruttola, Owls, Total Shutdown and the Papercuts. Proceeds will go to the Mines Advisory Group (M.A.G.). . . . Xiu Xiu and Deerhoof will also perform on Aug. 4 at 7pm at a benefit for KFJC at Appreciation Hall at Foothill College. Sciflyers and the Gorge Trio also perform. Tickets are $3 plus eight quarters for the parking meters. The M.L.S. Battle of the Bands grand finals, featuring Spun, downside, Electromotive and others, will take place this Thursday (July 26) at the Usual and the winner will play the All-Star Game this Saturday (July 28). An afterparty will be held Saturday following the game at the Usual. ... Metro's Music in the Park continues this Thursday (July 26) with Sonia dada. The free concert will run 5 to 8:15pm at Plaza de Cesar Chavez. Next week's concert (held Aug. 2) features Toots and the Maytals. ... Cake just released its new album, Comfort Eagle, last Tuesday (July 24) and has been giving surprise performances at small venues in Sacramento and other California cities. ... Kleidon's Lounge continues to host Cinema, Cocktails & Couches every Tuesday night. Upcoming movies include Showgirls and American Pie (July 31) and Snatch and Traffic (Aug. 7). Showtimes are at 8pm and 10:30pm, and the cover charge is $2 after 10pm.
