Rock Don't Stop An all-ages rock festival hits South Bay venues this weekend By Sarah Quelland THE STOP, DROP AND ROCK FESTIVAL will be held this Saturday (Aug. 11) thru Sunday (Aug. 13). Sponsored by Let's Go Records, Grand Fanali Presents and KSCU 103.3 FM, the event takes place at a variety of South Bay venues. On Friday (Aug. 11) Bunkbed holds its CD-release party at Channel One (763 The Alameda in Santa Clara). The Contrail, Mates of State and the Les Payne Product also perform. There's a $3 cover charge and the show starts at 7pm. There's a free show at 3pm on Saturday (Aug. 12) at Streetlight Records (980 S. Bascom Ave. in Santa Clara) featuring Spike and Princess and Casiotome for the Painfully Alone. Later that day, kicking off at 8pm, the Wunder Years, Anti 45 and Sorry About the Fire will perform at Channel One. On Sunday (Aug. 13) catch the Mr. T Experience, Shut Up Donny, FreakbomB, Amazing Transparent Man and Prop 808 at the Gaslighter Theater (400 E. Campbell Ave. in Campbell). That show starts at 7pm and tickets are $7. Advance tickets and $12 festival passes are available at Streetlight Records. A midnight movie is also planned for Saturday at the Towne Theater. Papa Roach's song "Blood Brothers" is included in the recently released game "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2" (available for Sega Dreamcast, PlayStation and Game Boy Color), along with songs by Rage Against the Machine, Bad Religion, Powerman 5000, Swingin' Utters, Lagwagon, Fu Manchu and others. In less than four months P-Roach's Infest has officially become a platinum-selling album. Former Urge Overkill member Nash Kato is touring to support his recent solo album titled Debutante. After opening for Cheap Trick at the Catalyst this Monday (Aug. 14), Kato headlines the Cactus Club on Wednesday (Aug. 16) at 5pm with local bands the Odd Numbers and Los Bastardos de Amor opening. Cheap Trick is making the rounds as well, with a date at the San Mateo County Fair (held at the San Mateo County Expo Center) this Tuesday (Aug. 15). Others scheduled to perform at the fair include Box Set (Aug. 11), Kai (Aug. 12), Kenny Chesney (Aug. 12), Tower of Power (Aug. 13), Marshall Tucker (Aug. 14), Don McLean (Aug. 16), Super Diamond (Aug. 17), James Clark's "A Tribute to Elvis" (Aug. 17), Gallagher (Aug. 18), the Coasters and the Drifters (Aug. 19) and Edlos and Pele Juju (Aug. 20). Tickets are $38 reserved/$28 general and available through Ticketmaster. Shortly after her Aug. 25 performance at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, Tracy Chapman presents a benefit concert for the UCSC Farm & Garden Apprenticeship and the Organic Farming Research Foundation. The event takes place Aug. 30 at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts and there are two benefit ticket packages available by calling 831.426.6606. For $75, receive a premium seat and a concert poster; for $125, enjoy a preconcert organic buffet dinner, a premium seat, a concert poster and a concert T-shirt. Regular tickets are $35 and available thru Ticketmaster. Jeffrey Gaines opens both shows. Slash's Snakepit will be opening for AC/DC at both area stops. The bands perform at the San Jose Arena on Sept. 19 and at the Oakland Coliseum Arena on Sept. 20. Country stars Alan Jackson and Clay Walker are scheduled to ride into the San Jose Arena on Sept. 24. Salmon, Los Bastardos de Amor and Drift perform tonight (Aug. 10) at Gaslighter's Music Hall in Gilroy.
