Metro's picks for the Jazz Fest

EVEN FOR THE TRULY DRIVEN JAZZ-LOVER, it's impossible to catch every performance taking place on 12 stages over two days at the San Jose Jazz Festival. So here are some suggestions by Metro's own in-house jazz fans. Not included in these picks are the Women in Jazz Stage (see cover story for a complete listing of that stage) and the Youth Stage, which features performances, from noon to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, of the next couple of generations of jazzers, from Montessori to college (honestly, who could choose from among them?).

In any case, this is not a definitive list. Even when pressed, sometimes Metro's writers couldn't pick just one act at a given hour. So, we know exactly how you feel.
