The Tapestry in Talent festival weaves a rich fabric of local arts and culture
HAPPILY, the autumn chill is still a good two months away, but just as sure as Memorial Day unofficially begins the summer season, Labor Day announces that it's coming to a close. Of course, that's surely not all bad: there's that day off, for one thing, and a bevy of outdoor festivals to help you make the most of the year's last holiday in the sun. One of the biggest and oldest of such festivals is the Tapestry in Talent festival, held on the streets of downtown San Jose. For its 25th year, the festival includes arts and crafts by 360 artists, food vendors offering international cuisine, the Design for Living lifestyles expo and five stages of live music and entertainment. To help you plan which stages you might want to visit, Metro has included the full schedule of acts performing over all three days of the festival.
Tapestry Times: A complete schedule for the three-day festival.
Songs of the South: Local acoustic trio Felonius Smith revives old-time country and blues.
Bard Attack: City Lights Theater Company condenses the classics with 'The Complete Works of Shakespeare.'
A Unique Blend: The San Francisco Guitar Quartet proves classical guitar isn't just a solo act.
Knowing the Score: Versatile Bay Area musician Marcus Shelby shares his vision with all the performing arts.
Rhythm and 'Son': Los Otros blends diverse talents and styles for a sound like no other.
The Tapestry in Talent Festival is held Saturday-Monday, Sept. 2-4, 10am-6pm each day, in downtown San Jose, on Almaden Boulevard between San Carlos and Santa Clara streets; Park Avenue and San Fernando Street between Woz Way and Market Street and the Discovery Meadow. Admission is free (funds raised at the festival help support arts outreach programs for kids). (408.494.3590 or www.tapestryintalent.org)
