Soon fall will turn to winter and the tomatoes will be gone, so savor summers swan song before theyre gone. Here are five heirloom varieties worth seeking out.
Brandywine: One of the first heirloom varieties to go mainstream, this big red tomato has a juicy, sweet flavor with a touch of acidity.
Green Zebra: Beautiful mottled green and yellow color and a tart, lemon-lime flavor.
Marvel Striped: A big yellow tomato originally from Mexico thats juicy and great for slicing.
Vintage White: Not white at all but red with blotches of yellow. Brilliantly sweet flavor with a hint of acidity.
Zapotec Pleated: Named after its indigenous Mexican origins, this deeply ribbed red tomato is great raw or cooked. Try stuffing it.
